Maranchón had been in existence from the Reconquest of Spain. In the fifteenth
century, it was under the rule of the feudal estate of the “Dukes of Medinaceli”
which were also called “La Cerda”. During the eighteenth century, this small
place increased its trading activities and its number of inhabitants too. This
village requested to be exempted from the jurisdiction of Soria. It obtained
this in 1769 throughout a certificate of Carlos III. He gave Maranchón the state
of village with its own law. Moreover, he placed, immediately, a gallows in the
hill of “El Llano” and a peak with an iron cross and four hooks in a place
called “Las Heras”. In general, the population started to devote to the cattle
trade, specifically with mules. They travel through various places of Spain with
their goods. As a consequence, they collected huge amounts of money. They used
this money in order to buy big houses in the village.
In its district, the Tajuña river is born. It keeps on flowing in valley from
the south of the village.

The parish church is a modern building from the XVIII
century. It has strong walls of masonry and a high tower in the west, which is
finished with a metallic capital. In the west of the village we can found the
chapel of “Nuestra Señora de los Olmos” who is the patron of Maranchón.
According to the legend, in 1114, when the Reconquest took place, the Virgin
appeared over a “sabina”. The old sanctuary was rebuilt in the XVIII century.
They stood the current sanctuary with a tower finished with an attractive
capital, which has oriental reminiscences. If we go for a walk, we can see the
past splendour throughout the big houses with a good building and all the
comforts.
